Winston Academy of Engineering is located in the Northwest section of Polk County and on the northwest side of Lakeland, Florida. The campus consists of eight buildings and is spread out over a 3-acre tract of land. It is an original “strawberry school” receiving acclaim as a historical site dating back to 1928. Winston serves a diverse population with 23.7% white students, 35.6% African-American students, 35.3% Hispanic students, and 5.34% students of various ethnicities. Winston Academy is a Community Eligibility Grant recipient allowing all students to receive free breakfast and lunch. Our students come from all walks of life and from a number of countries around the world. The total staff of Winston Academy consists of 63 people, with 21 being minorities, including several who have emigrated from foreign lands. Our staff represents diverse cultural backgrounds with a variety of countries from around the world included. The community around the school is suburban with primarily low and medium income housing with the per capita income within a 1 mile radius of $21,017 which is just above the national poverty rate.
