ITV (WBNN Morning News):

Students who participate in ITV must have a teacher recommendation.  Once a student is selected, they will work on taping for the news show throughout the day.  Students will be asked to stay after school one day a week to work on editing and filming special segments.  If you are interested in joining the ITV news team, please contact Mrs. Agostinelli or Mrs. Pearson at bethany.agostinelli@polk-fl.net or alison.pearson@polk-fl.net.

Archery:

Students in grades 3-5 are eligible for participation.  Students must have a permission slip and teacher recomendation.  Practices are held on Thursdays from 3:00 – 4:30.  

Band:

Students in 3rd – 5th grades are eligible for participation in the Winston Academy Band.  Students will need an instrument, a Standards of Excellence Book, reeds for the clarinet or alto saxophone, and valve oil for the trumpets.  Students who have never participated in band meet on Monday’s from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  Previous band students meet on Wednesday’s from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm.  If your child is interested in participating in Band, please contact Mr. Smith at (863)499-2890 or at kristoffer.smith@polk-fl.net.  

Chorus:

Students in 4th and 5th grades are eligible for participation in the Winston Academy Chorus.  Chorus rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  If your child is interested in participating in Chorus, please contact Mr. Smith at (863)499-2890 or at kristoffer.smith@polk-fl.net.

Chess Club:

Students in 2nd -5th grade are eligible for participation in the Chess Club.  Meetings are held on Wednesday’s from 3:00 – 4:00.  If you are interested in joining the Chess Club please contact Mrs. Caron at marjorie.caron@polk-fl.net.  

Bricks 4 Kidz: 

Bricks 4 Kidz is a hands-on class where students will design and build educational models including motorized machines.  Sessions are held every Tuesday for 1 hour (3:00 pm – 4:00 PM).   For a full description of each class  or to register, please visit the Bricks4kidz website.

 

Robotics:

The robotics club meets each Thursday from 3:00-4:30 pm.  Eligible students in grades 4-5 meet to practice and plan robotics programming for local competitions.  If you are interested in joining the robotics club, contact Ryan Pope at ryan.pope@polk-fl.net. 

 

Odyssey of the Mind

Odyssey of the Mind is limited to a small group of students in grades 4-5 who meet each Tuesday from 3:00-4:30 pm in order to practice and plan problem-solving techniques in preparation for local competition.  In order to be eligible, students must apply by completing an essay and receiving recommendations from two teachers.  Participating students must also remain in good academic standing throughout the school year.  If you would like more information regarding this unique opportunity, contact Sunny Gail at sunny.gail@polk-fl.net.
