New Online Tutoring Partnership With Varsity Tutors

We’re thrilled to announce Polk County Public Schools has partnered with Varsity Tutors to provide your student access to free personalized tutoring and learning support.

This new program helps ensure every student has the tools they need to succeed, including:

  • 1-on-1 Tutoring: Face-to-face online tutoring scheduled by their teachers for individualized instruction that’s connected to the classroom.
  • 24/7 Homework Help: Students can seek unlimited help from expert tutors through our 24/7 live chat across core K-12 subjects in English and Spanish or upload a draft of a writing assignment to receive detailed feedback within 48 hours.
  • Self-Study Tools and Courses: Whether your student needs help getting ahead or catching up, our comprehensive learning platform delivers right-sized support with live courses, practice problems, and adaptive assessments.
  • Unlimited Enrichment Classes: Education meets entertainment with hundreds of live and on-demand interactive classes, including celebrity-led StarCourses to teach them skills like coding, animating, financial literacy, and so much more.

This program is currently available for students attending: Alta Vista Elementary, Citrus Ridge: A Civics Academy, Floral Avenue Elementary, Fort Meade Middle-Senior High, and Winston Academy of Engineering.

Congratulations to Maria Negron, The District 5 School-Related Employee of the Year 2023

Maria Negron

Negron is an experienced paraeducator who is “meticulous” in her work. She is well-liked by the Winston Academy staff and isn’t afraid to tackle any challenges that arise.

Negron uses her language skills to serve as a translator for the school’s Spanish-speaking families. She is highly knowledge about ESOL programs and resources, and prioritizes the success of her students.

In addition to her classroom duties, Negron participates in Winston Academy’s student mentoring program, and has sponsored an afterschool Spanish Club. She takes pride in encouraging students to try new things and get more involved in school.
